Eastbourne Seafront
Eastbourne
Seafront is 14 Miles South of Valley View Barn. An award winning
shingle beach that stretches 5 miles from the Harbour in the East to
Beachy Head in the West. Half way along the beach lies Eastbourne Pier
which was orginally opened in 1870. The beautiful displays of flowers
lay to the front of the pier and stretch along the seafront to the west
to Holly Well Gardens. In the last few years Eastbourne has seen the
whole of the seafront made disabled / mobility friendly with smooth
paths running the full length. A dotto train also runs the length of
the seafront at regular intervals throughout the year.
Eastbourne's
Devonshire Park is the venue for the International Women's Open, a
Women's tennis tournament traditionally seen as the warm-up to
Wimbledon. The tournament has been held in the town since 1975, and
although in 2007 the Lawn Tennis Association was considering relocating
it to London, they instead opted to merge it with the Nottingham Open,
a men's event normally held at the same time, starting with the 2009
tournament.
